A couple years back, there was a game called BlockLand. Basicly, you went onto various servers and built stuff out of lego using your little lego man avatar. It was very fun, and still is, but it had some glaring flaws, and it wasn't realyl a true lego game. At least in the sense that Lego the company didn't make it. That's about to change.
Lego is going to be making a Lego MMO. Yes, a online Lego game. I imagine that it will use some concepts from BlockLand. Which means it will be awsome
"As children around the world continue to spend more time online we are developing new and engaging ways for them to interact with our brand," said Lisbeth Valther Pallesen, Executive Vice President, Community, Education and Direct Division LEGO Group. "The LEGO brand represents construction, creativity and problem solving -- values that compliment the MMOG market. By merging the online world of social interaction with physical play, the LEGO brand is providing new experiences for children, as well as fans. NetDevil's technological capability, openness to work with a large community, and their enthusiasm for the LEGO brand made them a natural partner."
"Playing with LEGO bricks and developing online worlds are both creative activities. To bring them together is deeply professionally satisfying and we look forward to working with the LEGO team," said Scott Brown, President of NetDevil.
I have full confidence that this game will be truly awsome. Despite technicly being a toy company, Lego actually makes some damn good games. Lego Racer, Lego Island, Lego Star Wars etc...
Lego has signed off the game to a company called NetDevil. Hopefully, they will do as good a job as other studios have with Lego games.
So, what is this game going to be like? According to what Kotaku has heard, the game will be somewhat similar to Second Life, except Lego-fied. Sounds great to me, I just hope that we won't be seeing companys setting up shop in the Lego universe, or countrys building virtual Lego embassys. It's bad enough with that already happening in Second Life.
