The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is going to be multiplayer! Yes, another multiplayer Zelda game. Fortunately, you won't need a gamecube, link cables and a few game boy advances (damn you Four Swords Adventures...) to play it. All you need is a DS and a copy of Phantom Hourglass.
Unlike the Four Swords games, TLoZ: PH will only support up to 2 players instead of 4. A bit of a disapointment that it doesn't support more players, but oh well.
Only one multiplayer mode has been anounced thus far. In it, players will race eachother to collect the most Force Gems within a set amount of time. Players will alternate between controlling Link, and controlling 3 different Phantom Gaurds. While Link, you will have to go to key locations in order to gather the Force Gems. When controlling the Phantom Gaurds, your goal will be to keep Link from getting his grubby hands on those Force Gems, presumably by fighting Link.
It might not be the greatest multiplayer mode created (How about some Link Vs Link all out deathmatches?), but hey, it's better than no multiplayer at all. More bang for your buck.
There is also a fresh batch of screenshots. Check em out below:
*note* Since we couldn't get to GDC, we wern't able to actually try out the game. IGN though has a more indepth article about it, since they were able to see it firsthand. http://ds.ign.com/articles/771/771138p1.html
