Well it turned out that Microsoft had to go a couple of hours over their projected 14 hour window for the maintanance. The service was cut back on roughly around 9:30pm EST. Unfortunately this displeased many Xbox 360 gamers which whom left numerous derogatory remarks on forums including Xbox Live's Major Neslon's blog. However many gamers were also quite understanding and supported the techs at Microsoft all the way.
I have been online since the service was turned back on in a game of GRAW 2 (Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2) and it ran flawlessly. No negative reports have turned up as of right now reguarding Xbox Live's performance.
