The time has come for Nintendo to release its own version of the "Xbox Live Arcade" (The service on the Xbox 360 that allows you to download little arcade games). Nintendo is getting ready to launch "WiiWare", a place (presumably on the Wii Shop Channel, as there is already something called WiiWare there) where you will be able to download content for games, as well as games themselves. And not classic games like on the Virtual Console, these games are Wii Specific, made by both indie developers and the major developers.
We will however, have to wait a while before we get to see this stuff on the Wii. According to the president of Nintendo of America, we won't see any of these Wii arcade games untill sometime next year. In the mean while though, I think it's safe to assume that the "WiiWare" category in the Wii Shop channel will continue to fill up with various downloadable channels.
