First Xbox 360 owners were rattled by news of a unconfirmed Gears of War trilogy let slip by Jeff Bell in a Game-Daily interview.

Jeff Bell Vice President of Microsoft's division of Global Marketing said , ""The goal of the ad is to establish Marcus Fenix as the hero of the Gears of War trilogy," Jeff Bell, Microsoft Corporate VP of Global Marketing, Interactive Entertainment Business".

While this happened last week more news has been uncovered since then, various news outlets and forumers have uncovered posts by Mark Rein on the Epic Games forums.
As Mark Rein[3rd post down] says,

"Gears is a trilogy? If we can keep making quality games that fans obviously love (see announcement) then why would we have to stop at three? I don't see the Metal Gear Solid, Mario, Grand Theft Auto or Final Fantasy series (among others) stopping at three and they're still delivering compelling entertainment content that's easily worth the money (see Unreal Tournament as well). There's definitely, as many of you have pointed out, a lot more to learn about what's really happening on the plant Sera and in the lives of the members of Delta Squad ".

With this small tidbit uncovered, could Gears of War become another saga that keeps on going like that of Mario and others?
Only time will tell but it is most likely that the games will branch off into a huge universal plot.

But what of that other shooter that has a universal plot, I think it was called, Halo?
Will Gears of War and Halo be fighting for the top spot in the Xbox franchise?
It's quite possible, however Gears of War isn't even a month old, let's give it some time.
